Fingerlings
Spawning Sea Trout has been established now in oct/nov in the small
tribuatory Emmekalvsbacken close to the Em river. This is probably an effect
from GUS work with transport of fingerlings (from the main river) which
have been done for the last 3 years. GUS means that Emmekalvsbacken can
be an important complement to Sea Trout stocks for the coming years.

Advanced Salmon Fishing - technique, strategy and wonderful takes

My latest book ”Advanced Salmon Fishing” is a photo-odyssey and a
greeting to the Salmon and the fly fishing. In between all the photos there
are fascinating adventures from different Salmon rivers all over. Have a taste

Holger Lauth's historical catch!
On the 20th of september Holger Lauth got a record Salmon from the Black
Water pool. The fight continued for more than 1 hour and the cock fish
scaled 26,6 kilos. This is by all means a seriously big fly caught Salmo
Salar that will easily be placed on a "top twenty list" seen in a historical
view for the whole of Scandinavia.

GUS and the electronic Salmon Counter
Today, the 10th of sept, GUS put the electronic Salmon Counter at work
again in the ladder at Karlshammar powerstation. It´s already late season
for this - but let us hope there can be a permanent solution regarding the
responsibillity for the counter. GUS also cleaned up the ladder so the Sea
Trout easily can find their way upstream. The picture shows where the ladder
starts close to the outflow of the turbine.

Record Atlantic Salmon
An unusual interesting new book has just arrived. "Record Atlantic Salmon".
It´s about seriously big rod caught Salmon - 50 lbs or more! The book is
written by Ronald Swanson from USA and holds 216 pages and over 200
color-photos and no less then + 500 Salmons listed together with their history.
2/3 rds of the fish are from Norway, Sweden and Finland (1 from Denmark).
Those who are interested in the book can take contact with GUS. It´s a
limited edition with 1.000 signed & slipcased copies. Price $125

Ignell painting
Norwegian artist Jonas Ignell has donated one of his paintings -"Classic I". We are
most honoured and will place the painting in our museum. This was just in time for
the GUS 20 year celebration which will take place on the 17th of May.

We move parr
In the the smolt-traps at Em there are numbers of free-drifting parr along with the smolts
(approx 30 x 4 mm) that just have left their egg sacks. Nature´s own surplus or what..?
We moved some of these last year and are in full business also this year. On the 1st
and 2nd of May, we transported some 500 individuals to Emmekalvsbäcken, a small
tribuatory to the Em river next to Emsfors. See photos below.
Please note that GUS need support. We will among other things be putting in money to
see that the by pass at Karlshammars powerstation won't be delayed. Choose between
platina, gold, silver or bronze! Platina is no less than 5.000 Swedish krona. Gold for
donations of 1.000 sw krona or more. Silver 500 sw krona and finally bronze 100 sw krona.
We will also be pleased to accept Euro. To make a donation you can easily transfer money

Geir, Jens and Soren was rewarded
Due to some nice and recent catches of Em Sea Trout, Geir Goosen from Bergen, Norway
along with Jens Kristensen and Sören Grimshave from Denmark was rewarded with the
classic GUS pin at the Museum on the 16th of april. Göran Ulfsparre was the “executor”.
(The logotype on the pin was created by Gustaf Ulfsparre in the 30-ties and is also the
logotype for the GUS foundation.)

on Jungnerholmarna, is an interesting alternative for the fishing club or friends, that perhaps

your wishes. The museum is open, summertime, Sundays between 11.00 – 15.00. Welcome!

Smolt construction at River Alster
Orri, GUS (Göran and myself) had a look at some smolt related problems today at River Alster
close to Em river. It´s hard to believe that those small creatures can find their way but
some of them certainly do so. We will build a similar construction at Em river.
